Baldwyn High School Senior Explores Culinary Arts at Northeast Mississippi Community College
Baldwyn High School senior Mathieu Arnold spent the day shadowing students in Northeast Mississippi Community College’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Technology programs, according to a school release.
Arnold participated in a cooking session focused on Louisiana cuisine, working with lab partner James Zackarevicz, a college student. Under the supervision of Culinary Arts Instructor Ginger Goodwin, they prepared jambalaya in a commercial kitchen setting.
He also met with Hospitality Management Technology Instructor Christy Grissom to discuss scheduling for the upcoming fall semester. Arnold said the experience changed his view of cooking, noting that it requires skill, precision, and preparation.
“Cooking requires much more skill, precision, and preparation than I realized,” Arnold said. “It showed me that culinary arts is both a creative and technical field that takes practice and attention to detail. I would like to pursue this career, as well as hospitality after I graduate.”
The event was part of the district’s efforts to expose students to career opportunities in various fields, the release said.
