Baldwyn High Student Shadows in NICU at Tupelo Women’s Hospital

Baldwyn High School junior Sierra Whetstone had the opportunity to shadow staff in the neonatal intensive care unit at Tupelo Women’s Hospital, part of North Mississippi Medical Center, on Wednesday.

Whetstone described her experience as eye-opening. She said, “I shadowed Mrs. Shelby at Tupelo’s Women’s Center in the NICU. It was a lot different than I expected. I learned about the different babies there, what they were being treated for, and the various areas within the NICU.”

She observed Mrs. Shelby making rounds with two babies and noted the variety of cases handled in the unit. Whetstone expressed enthusiasm for a future career in neonatal nursing. She thanked everyone at NMMC for allowing her to participate in the shadowing experience.
