Booneville advises residents to locate water shut-off valves before winter storm
The Booneville Gas and Water Department is urging residents to prepare for an upcoming cold snap by locating their home water shut-off valves. With temperatures expected to drop significantly through next week, officials recommend taking proactive steps to prevent leaks and water damage.
Many homes built in the past 20 years have interior shut-off valves located under bathroom cabinets or in closets, according to department officials. They advise residents to locate and mark these valves now before a leak occurs. Photos provided by the department illustrate common locations for these valves.
If interior shut-off valves cannot be found, residents should mark their water meters in the yard for quick access. The department also recommends that well users identify the breaker marked “well” in their electric panel. Turning this breaker off can shut down the well in case of a leak, but pressure may take several minutes to release.
For questions or assistance over the weekend, residents can contact the Booneville Gas & Water Department’s on-call phone at 662-416-1882. The city also encourages residents to follow updates on their Facebook page for the latest information.
