Booneville Announces Debris Removal Plan After Ice Storm

The city of Booneville has finalized a debris removal plan after a recent ice storm caused significant damage. During a recent work session, city officials reviewed proposals from contractors and selected Hughes Construction for the debris removal phase, according to city officials.

Hughes Construction was chosen after discussions with other companies, including SDR, to assess experience and capabilities. To oversee the effort, ER Assist will serve as project manager, and Debris Tech will act as monitoring team, officials said.

Prentiss County has been designated a Category A Disaster Zone, enabling Booneville to access federal and state disaster assistance. An estimated 250,000 cubic yards of debris remains within the city limits, a substantial amount that will take time to remove from public rights-of-way, officials noted.

City leaders emphasized the importance of patience and cooperation as crews begin mobilizing. The next steps include establishing hauling sites, which must receive approval from the Department of Environmental Quality. More updates will be provided as contracts are finalized and work progresses.
