Booneville Begins Storm Debris Cleanup Efforts
The city of Booneville is moving into its debris cleanup phase following recent ice storms, according to Mayor Lori Tucker. The city will discuss debris removal efforts and potential contractors at the upcoming Tuesday city board meeting.
Booneville has been awaiting responses from state and federal agencies regarding a possible Category A Disaster Declaration. If approved, this designation could allow government funding to cover part of the storm debris removal costs.
In preparation for contractor mobilization, residents are asked to place storm debris near the street as soon as possible. Officials request that only brush and wood debris be placed out, avoiding household trash, plastics, or metals. Residents should also keep debris away from utility stations, fire hydrants, drainage systems, downed fiber lines, meters, and electric poles.
The city expects the debris removal process to take several weeks once a contractor is officially engaged. Route information and updates will be shared weekly with residents. Additionally, officials will notify the public if any individual reimbursements or assistance programs become available through state or federal agencies.
Mayor Tucker thanked residents for their patience and cooperation, emphasizing the community’s collective effort to recover and rebuild.
