Booneville Debris Removal Continues with Progress from Hughes Contractors

Hughes Contractors announced ongoing progress in Booneville’s storm debris removal efforts, with crews operating across all four wards. The company has seven debris trucks in service, with two more expected to come online soon, and plans to add five bucket trucks to assist with removing damaged trees.

As of last night, approximately 14,000 cubic yards of debris have been collected, and more than 300 leaning trees and hangers have been safely removed. Crews prioritized high-traffic and heavily impacted areas to reduce roadway hazards, especially over the weekend. The city requested work around the Anderson School area to ensure safe traffic flow during off-school hours.

Starting Wednesday, debris trucks will begin hauling wood chips from the temporary lay-down yard. The debris must be transported to an approved Department of Environmental Quality-certified site, with disposal monitored by DebrisTech to ensure compliance with regulations. Temporary traffic safety units have been installed near the old Apex site to slow traffic around debris operations.

As crews work on narrower or busy streets such as Meadowcreek, South 2nd, East Chambers, and West College Street, the city will coordinate with law enforcement to maintain safety. Booneville officials praised the collaboration among city departments, contractors, schools, and public safety agencies. Mayor Lori C. Tucker expressed appreciation for the community’s patience and cooperation as cleanup efforts continue.
