Booneville issues safety alert as ice storm causes power outages and hazardous conditions

The city of Booneville has issued a safety alert as an ice storm continues to impact the area. Temperatures are dropping, and accumulated rainfall is expected to cause additional damage, according to city officials.

Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid all unnecessary travel. The storm has led to downed power lines, fallen trees, and debris on roads. Crews and first responders are working to make repairs and conduct rescues as needed, but they face hazardous conditions.

Booneville Mayor Lori Tucker urged residents to refrain from riding ATVs or driving through streets unless absolutely necessary. She emphasized that conditions are extremely dangerous and that safety is the top priority.

Warming stations at the community centers in Swift and Sunflower are currently closed due to power outages. The city plans to reopen these centers as warming stations once power is restored.

Officials thank residents for their patience and cooperation during this event and ask for prayers for the community and responders.
