Booneville officials provided an update Tuesday on street cleanup efforts following the recent Ice Storm Fern. The city has removed about 80,000 cubic yards of debris from streets, with roughly 9,500 cubic yards delivered to West Fraser, representing an approximate 8-to-1 removal-to-delivery ratio.
According to city officials, about 1,500 limbs and hazardous hangers have been cut down. The cleanup crews estimate they are just under halfway through the debris removal process based on visual street surveys, with steady progress reported.
Daily operations include bringing in around 7,000 cubic yards of debris and hauling off 1,200 to 1,400 cubic yards each day. The city is employing four bucket trucks to handle high hangers and leaning trees, with nine debris trucks operating continuously. Two haul-off trucks are working to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, and the city’s chipper is functioning efficiently, officials said.
Weather conditions are favorable for ongoing cleanup efforts. Officials reported a full week of decent weather forecasted, which should aid in completing the debris removal. Additional updates are expected soon, and residents are advised to stay safe during the process.
