FEMA approves individual assistance for Mississippi counties affected by winter storm

President Donald Trump has approved a request for Individual Assistance for counties affected by severe winter weather in Mississippi from Jan. 23-27, according to federal officials.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced that 36 counties, along with the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, are eligible for aid. The counties include Adams, Alcorn, Attala, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Carroll, Claiborne, Coahoma, Desoto, Grenada, Holmes, Humphreys, Issaquena, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lee, Leflore, Marshall, Montgomery, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, Warren, Washington, Yalobusha and Yazoo.

Eligible residents can apply for assistance online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA. TTY users can call 1-800-462-7585. Assistance may include grants for home repairs, low-cost loans for uninsured property losses, and other recovery programs.

Officials emphasized that the aid aims to help individuals and business owners recover from the disaster. The federal disaster declaration number is DR-4899.

Federal officials expressed gratitude for the approval, with one noting the importance of federal support in disaster recovery efforts.
