Interstate 22 and 55 reopen in northern Mississippi amid winter conditions

Interstates 22 and 55 have reopened in northern Mississippi, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation. All lanes on I-22 from Red Banks (Exit 21) to the Tennessee state line are now accessible, and the section of I-55 north of Como (Exit 257) has also reopened.

Despite the reopenings, officials warn that icy conditions, debris, and crews remain on site in these areas. Travel is not recommended unless necessary, as icy roads and bridges continue to affect 21 counties across the state.

The affected counties include Alcorn, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Coahoma, DeSoto, Grenada, Lafayette, Leflore, Marshall, Panola, Prentiss, Quitman, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Washington, and Yalobusha, where icy conditions are still reported.

Motorists are encouraged to check live road conditions using the MDOT Traffic App or by visiting MDOTtraffic.com. Officials emphasize that emergency travel is advised only in affected areas due to winter weather hazards.
