Mississippi Delta Waterfowl Surveys Underway During Fall and Winter
Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks biologists are flying over the Mississippi Delta from November through January to conduct aerial waterfowl surveys. The surveys cover randomly selected transects across the region.
The agency emphasizes that these surveys do not count every bird but provide a reliable index of waterfowl numbers and habitat use. This data helps hunters and conservationists identify key wetland habitats and understand how weather and habitat changes impact waterfowl activity, according to MDWFP.
Survey results are publicly available on the department’s website, offering valuable insights for managing waterfowl populations and habitat conservation efforts. The reports can be accessed at https://www.mdwfp.com/wildlife-hunting/wildlife-species-program/waterfowl-program/aerial-survey-reports.
