Mississippi Fishery Staff Conduct Electrofishing to Monitor Fish Populations
Staff from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks have been deploying electrofishing equipment over the past week. The technique temporarily stuns fish, allowing biologists to collect data on species, size, abundance, and overall health.
Electrofishing is a safe and effective method for assessing fish populations. In some cases, it also helps identify fish suitable for hatchery spawning programs that aim to stock and enhance public waters across the state.
The department encourages anglers and the public to support conservation efforts that protect and sustain Mississippi’s aquatic resources.
