Mississippi Frog Season Runs April 1 to Sept. 30

During warm spring and summer nights, the calls of bullfrogs echo across ditches, swamps, rice fields, and ponds in Mississippi, according to wildlife officials.

The tradition of catching frogs on hot summer evenings has been part of Southern culture for many years. While some hunters find success during daylight, most prefer to go at night using a spotlight.

Froggers may use a long crappie fishing pole with a small treble hook, a gig, or quietly sneak up and grab the frog by hand, sources said.

Mississippi’s frog hunting season runs from April 1 through September 30. The daily bag limit is 25 frogs. More information is available on the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks website.
