Mississippi highway officials divert traffic due to icy road conditions
Mississippi Department of Transportation crews are working to remove ice from roadways, prompting traffic diversions on several highways, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol and Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division.
Traffic will be diverted from Interstate 55 Northbound Exit 243 near Batesville to the Tennessee state line and from Interstate 22 Westbound Exit 21 at Red Banks to the Tennessee border. Eastbound traffic on Interstate 22/U.S. Highway 78 will be closed at Exit 1 (Craft Road).
Officials warn that traveling through these areas or bypassing barricades is at the motorist’s own risk. The right lane of northbound Interstate 55 is scheduled to reopen at 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on road conditions as crews work to clear ice from the roadways.
