Mississippi MDWFP reminds hunters of Pelahatchie Bay alligator season application deadline

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) has announced that the application period for the 2026 Pelahatchie Bay alligator season closes Feb. 13, 2026. The season features several key differences from the regular August public water alligator season, according to MDWFP.

This year’s program is a partnership application, and each permit holder can harvest up to two alligators longer than 6 feet. No-hunting zones will be established near residential areas, and additional restrictions apply. Harvest reporting is required for all participants.

The permit fee is $100, and applicants must hold an alligator hunting license, which costs $25, as well as a valid combination-type hunting license. More details on regulations can be found in the administrative rules for Pelahatchie Bay.

MDWFP encourages interested hunters to visit their website for further information at https://www.mdwfp.com/wildlife-hunting/wildlife-species-program/alligator-program/pelahatchie-bay-special-season.
