Two people have died in Mississippi due to a severe winter storm, according to local officials. One death occurred in Hinds County and another in Tishomingo County. Additionally, two injuries have been reported—one in Hinds County and another in Smith County.

The storm has impacted 47 counties and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, causing damage and disruptions across the state. Federal Emergency Management Agency personnel are on the ground distributing 30 generators, fuel, and other supplies to assist in response efforts, FEMA spokespersons said.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency continues to deploy generators, bottled water, Meals Ready to Eat, cots, and blankets to affected areas. More supplies are arriving from federal partners to support recovery efforts. FEMA and President Joe Biden have been acknowledged for their ongoing assistance.

As of Tuesday, more than 160,000 residents are without power. Difficult road conditions and debris are hampering restoration efforts. The Mississippi Department of Transportation is working to clear roads and coordinate with utility companies to remove downed power lines.

Power crews are working tirelessly to restore electricity amid dangerous conditions. Emergency officials emphasized the importance of safety and asked residents to remain patient. Damage assessments are ongoing, and additional resources will be deployed as needed once evaluations are complete.

Mississippi remains focused on response and recovery, employing a whole-of-government approach. Authorities urge residents to check on neighbors, stay off the roads, and remain warm. More than 60 warming centers are open statewide, and residents seeking shelter can find locations at MSEMA’s website. Cold weather is expected to persist into Tuesday morning.
