Mississippi State First Lady Shares Journey from Community College to White House
Mississippi State University First Lady Rhonda Keenum addressed more than 250 students and advisors at the Phi Theta Kappa Regional Conference on MSU’s campus Monday morning. The event brought together students from Mississippi and Louisiana two-year colleges.
Keenum, a former PTK member at Northeast Mississippi Community College, shared how her experiences at NEMCC helped shape her career. She discussed her educational journey at NEMCC and Mississippi State University, which eventually led her to serve as a senior White House staff member during the George W. Bush administration.
Her speech highlighted the potential for community college students to achieve significant career milestones. Keenum expressed pride in her roots and emphasized the importance of ambition and determination for students aiming for leadership roles.
MSU officials noted that Keenum’s story serves as an inspiring example for the next generation of community college students. The event aimed to motivate students to pursue higher education and leadership opportunities.
