Mississippi Turkey Season Opens March 14, Hunters Prepared for Season

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks announced that turkey season opens March 14. A youth season starts a week earlier, on March 7, according to department officials.

Hunters are advised to purchase their Wild Turkey Stamp and/or Exempt Turkey Game Check before the season begins. The department recommends downloading the new MDWFP HuntFish app, as the previous versions are no longer operational.

Both the Wild Turkey Stamp and Exempt Turkey Game Check are available at licensed vendors. After purchase, reporting features will automatically appear in the app within 48 hours, allowing hunters to log their harvests digitally. Each hunter can report up to three turkeys per season.

Harvests must be reported in the HuntFish app before moving the bird from the harvest site. Digital reporting is fully legal, and physical tags are not required for most hunters. Physical tags are only available at in-person license vendors and must be attached to the bird’s leg and reported to MDWFP by 10 p.m. on the day of harvest.
