Mississippi Urges Preparedness as Ice, Freezing Rain Forecasted

Mississippi officials are urging residents to prepare for severe winter weather, including ice and freezing rain, with conditions expected to develop starting as early as this evening.

The forecast indicates that potential impacts may be slightly south of previous predictions, particularly along the western border of the Mississippi River from Vicksburg through Natchez and south to the state line, according to state officials.

Residents living in or just south of an imaginary line from Greenville to Greenwood to Amory should be prepared for ice and sleet, which could begin as early as sundown. Authorities emphasize that those north of these communities, including Natchez, Jackson, and Columbus, should also brace for very cold weather and potentially significant disruptions from ice, freezing rain, or sleet.

State officials recommend residents review the latest risk levels and take necessary precautions to stay safe during the approaching winter storm.
