Mississippi Wildlife Department Hosts Prescribed Fire Workshops for Landowners

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks thanked participants for attending prescribed fire workshops over the past few weeks. The sessions aimed to educate private landowners and managers on using fire as a tool to enhance wildlife habitats, according to the department.

Attendees had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and engage with certified burn experts. They asked questions and learned how to effectively implement fire on their properties, the department said.

The workshops were funded by the Mississippi Outdoor Stewardship Trust Fund and organized in partnership with several organizations, including the U.S. Forest Service, Mississippi Forestry Commission, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Mississippi State University Extension Service, Mississippi Wildlife, The Nature Conservancy, Mississippi Prescribed Fire Council, and Mississippi Forestry Association.

The department encourages interested individuals to follow their channels for updates on future fire workshop opportunities. More information on prescribed fire as a habitat management tool is available on their website.
