Mississippi youth turkey season opens tomorrow; MDWFP urges safe hunting practices

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks announced that youth turkey season opens tomorrow across the state. The agency encourages experienced hunters to share safety tips with young hunters during this time.

MDWFP emphasizes that safety should always come first. They recommend that hunters ensure their equipment is in good working order, keep firearms on safety until ready to fire, and only shoot at confirmed targets with a clear background.

The department also advises youth hunters to attend hunter education classes before heading into the woods. Before hunting, individuals should inform someone of their plans, including location and expected return time. The agency reminds everyone that young hunters are always watching and learning from their mentors.

Most importantly, MDWFP stresses that a safe hunt is more important than a successful one. The department encourages families and friends to take hunter education classes together. More information is available at https://www.mdwfp.com/enforcement-education/hunter-education.
