Northeast Mississippi Community College baseball player Tyler Samaniego has been promoted to the Boston Red Sox, according to team officials.
Samaniego, who will wear jersey number 78, could make his Major League Baseball debut as early as today in Boston, sources said.
The promotion marks a historic milestone for NEMCC, as Samaniego is the first player from the school to receive a call to the big leagues, the team added.
Details about his career at NEMCC or his potential debut were not immediately available.
The Red Sox are expected to make an official announcement later today.
