Northeast Honors Institute students excel at Mississippi Honors Conference

Students from Northeast Mississippi Community College’s Honors Institute achieved top placements at the Mississippi Honors Conference hosted by Belhaven University.

Angela Portillo-Hernandez took first place in social sciences, while Anna Slack earned first place in STEM. John Gaines secured third place in STEM, according to school officials.

The conference gathers top honors students from two- and four-year colleges across Mississippi. Northeast’s students stood out among the competition, demonstrating high-level research and confident presentation skills.

School representatives said the Honors Institute continues to produce students ready for the next level of academic and professional achievement.
