Trump Administration approves aid for four more Mississippi counties affected by winter storm
The Trump Administration has approved public assistance for four more counties in Mississippi affected by the winter storm that occurred between Jan. 23 and Jan. 27, according to federal officials.
With this decision, a total of 38 counties are now eligible for federal aid under Public Assistance Categories A through G. The newly approved counties are Choctaw, Itawamba, Oktibbeha, and Wilkinson.
Previously, 34 counties received approval for aid, including Adams, Alcorn, Attala, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Carroll, Claiborne, Grenada, Holmes, Humphreys, Issaquena, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lee, Leflore, Marshall, Montgomery, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Union, Warren, Washington, Webster, Yalobusha, Yazoo, and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.
Federal aid will support local governments with grants for debris removal, emergency protective measures, and the restoration of public infrastructure, officials said.
There was no immediate comment from federal officials about the approval process. Mississippi officials expressed gratitude for the assistance, thanking the Trump Administration for its support amid ongoing recovery efforts.
