Tupelo man sentenced to 25 years for second-degree murder
TUPELO, Miss. — A Tupelo man received a 25-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the 2023 death of Montavious Jemar Clifton.
Jaedin Jacques Hatchett entered the plea on February 12, 2026, in connection with the March 5, 2023, shooting. Circuit Court Judge John R. White sentenced him to serve the full term in the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Hatchett will be ineligible for parole or early release.
Prosecutors said an additional 15 years of the sentence were suspended. Upon release, Hatchett will be required to complete five years of post-release supervision. The case was investigated by the Tupelo Police Department, and Assistant District Attorney Sadie Gardner prosecuted the case on behalf of the state. Jason D. Herring is the district attorney for the First Circuit Court District.
