Waterfowl and Timber Unit Hunting Open on Select Dates Amid Weather Concerns
The Mahannah and Phil Bryant Wildlife Management Area timber units will be open for hunting on Saturday, Jan. 24, and Monday, Jan. 26, officials announced. The sites will operate as open hunting areas rather than stand-by draw, but check-in is still required, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP).
Several other WMAs, including Charlie Capps, Howard Miller, Muscadine, Mahannah (pre-drawn units), Trim Cane, and Tuscumbia, remain open for pre-drawn hunters. Due to potential weather and travel hazards, waterfowl draw hunts at these areas will only be available to pre-drawn hunters and their parties on the designated dates. Stand-by opportunities will not be offered on Jan. 24 and Jan. 26.
Pre-drawn waterfowl hunters must check in and out using the MDWFP HuntFish app or paper user cards. All other regulations for individual areas remain in effect, officials said. The department advised hunters to stay alert for changing weather conditions that could impact safety and access.
