USDA Extends Free Meals Program for Rest of 2020
The Department of Agriculture announced on Monday that it would extending its program of free meals to all children for the rest of the year.
“It’s for everyone, all kids regardless of economic abilities. All the kids everywhere — those who are attending school in person, those who are attending virtually,” stated Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue.
The program is usually restricted to families in financial need, but it has been extended to all kids due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
These extended benefits were set to expire in September originally.
There is a concern that the federal grant money for the program will not last for the rest of the year. If so, the program will revert back to its original restrictions.
