Hunter Safety Tips for Turkey Season
Hunters heading into the woods for turkey season are advised to follow key safety practices. These include always keeping the firearm’s muzzle pointed in a safe direction, treating every firearm as if it’s loaded, and being certain of their target and what lies beyond it.
Additionally, hunters should keep their finger outside the trigger guard until they are ready to shoot. These safety measures help prevent accidents and ensure a safe hunting experience, according to wildlife officials.
Officials also recommend taking a hunter education course. The course covers firearm safety, first aid, wildlife identification, conservation, and other topics to prepare hunters for outdoor activities. Hunter education is required for anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1972, before purchasing a hunting license.
Interested individuals can find a course or obtain certification online at https://www.mdwfp.com/enforcement-education/hunter-education, officials said.
