Attorney General Liz Murrill defended the recent NCAA hearing involving student-athletes in Baton Rouge, calling it a victory for fairness. She stated that those involved were seeking a fair forum and a neutral decision-maker, which she believes they received.
Murrill criticized the NCAA for not sending anyone other than lawyers to the hearing. She also noted that SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said he had not read the relevant rules until that day. The judge in the case heard all testimony and ultimately ruled in favor of protecting the students’ eligibility, according to Murrill.
Murrill emphasized that the rules do not prohibit the students from playing and expressed approval of the judge’s ruling. She characterized the situation as a positive outcome for student-athletes facing NCAA scrutiny in Baton Rouge.
