Experts advise homeowners on how to deter snakes during summer

With summer in full swing, homeowners are reminded that snakes are on the move. Experts say that many people seek ways to keep snakes away from their property, but common methods may not be effective.

Studies indicate that commercial snake repellents do not reliably prevent snakes from entering yards. Instead, authorities recommend keeping grass short and removing debris, shelters, and food sources that could attract snakes.

Additionally, officials warn against using mothballs outdoors, citing legal restrictions and potential harm to wildlife, pets, and humans. Homeowners are encouraged to follow safe and effective practices to minimize snake encounters this season.
