Mississippi Outdoors Podcast explores how to attract hummingbirds to your yard

A new episode of the Mississippi Outdoors Podcast features retired biologist Mark LaSalle discussing how Mississippians can attract hummingbirds to their yards.

LaSalle explains which native plants, such as cross vine, red buckeye, coral honeysuckle, coral bean, trumpet creeper, cardinal flower, and salvias, are effective in attracting hummingbirds. He emphasizes that these plants work better than feeders alone.

He also talks about when hummingbirds arrive in Mississippi and why they tend to return to the same yards each year. LaSalle highlights that 80% of a hummingbird’s diet consists of insects, not nectar, which many people may not realize.
