The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) has issued a reminder to hunters about the 2026-2027 Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Management Zones ahead of the upcoming deer season.
The agency outlined the boundaries of the zones, which include several counties in North Mississippi, Issaquena, Warren, and parts of Harrison and Hancock counties. Notably, areas north of Highway 278 in Pontotoc County have been added for the upcoming season.
MDWFP emphasizes that whole carcasses cannot be transported outside of a CWD Management Zone. Additionally, supplemental feeding is banned within all zones. Only specific parts of deer may be moved across zone boundaries, including deboned meat, antlers and skull plates with no tissue, cleaned teeth, finished taxidermy products, hides, and tanned products.
Deer heads may only be transported outside of a zone to a permitted taxidermist participating in the CWD collection program. The agency advises hunters to consult the official map and guidelines online for detailed boundary information and carcass transportation rules.
