Northeast Mississippi Community College’s Paramedic Program gave students a hands-on learning experience by taking them from the clinical setting to the courtroom.
Shane Scott, J.D., an instructor on the Northeast campus, led the exercise, which involved a simulated patient care scenario followed by a mock cross-examination. Students responded to questions about their clinical decisions, patient care, and documentation.
The exercise highlighted the importance of accountability in paramedic work, emphasizing that patient care doesn’t end when the ambulance arrives at the hospital. Students are being trained to make sound decisions, document accurately, and confidently explain their actions.
Program officials say this approach prepares students for the real-world responsibilities of emergency medical services, beyond just passing exams. They thanked Scott for his investment in student development and for helping prepare the next generation of paramedics.
