Booneville School District urges drivers to follow stop-arm laws to ensure student safety

Booneville school officials are calling on drivers to exercise caution during morning and afternoon bus routes. The district emphasizes that student safety is the top priority during pickups and drop-offs.

Under Nathan’s Law, it is illegal to pass a school bus when the stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing. Many district buses are now equipped with safety cameras that record stop-arm violations. Citations can be issued based on footage from these cameras, even without a police officer present, according to the district.

School officials stress that the law is more than a traffic rule — it is a measure to protect children. They urge drivers to stay alert, slow down, and remember that “STOP means STOP” every time they encounter a school bus.

The district’s message underscores the importance of following traffic laws to keep students safe during daily bus transportation, in accordance with Nathan’s Law.
