Community raises nearly $4,800 at inaugural CCHS 5K in Mississippi
More than 100 runners and walkers participated Saturday morning in the first Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome (CCHS) 5K Fun Run at Northeast Mississippi Community College’s Booneville campus.
The 3.1-mile course was completed in under an hour, with top finishers including Elijah Tucker, who finished first in 19 minutes and 27 seconds. Christopher Wright and Tony Hilliard finished second and third, respectively, with times of 22:15 and 22:32, according to organizers.
The event raised nearly $4,800 to support CCHS research. It was organized by Northeast Mississippi Community College Honors Institute student Katie Nock, under the guidance of science instructor Dawn Hilliard.
The run was held in honor of Grayson Mills, the 8-month-old son of Tylor and Lindsay Mills, as a community effort to raise awareness and funds for the rare disorder.
