Fallen felon accused of shoplifting, carrying weapons, in Booneville

Booneville police and constables responded to a report of a possible shoplifter at Tractor Supply on August 13, 2026, according to authorities.

The suspect, described as a white male carrying a black backpack, fled on foot toward the New China Buffet. Constable Bryon Parker, nearby at the time, quickly responded and located the suspect behind the restaurant.

The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Jonathan Decanter of Falkner, Mississippi, was detained after a pat-down uncovered brass knuckles and a pocketknife. Decanter appeared to be under the influence of a stimulant and was taken into custody.

Authorities searched Decanter’s backpack, finding multiple unopened merchandise items, a second set of brass knuckles, and a large fixed-blade knife. Staff at Walmart and Tractor Supply said they would review surveillance footage and expect to file shoplifting charges.

Further investigation revealed Decanter is a convicted felon from Tippah County. He reportedly admitted to stealing items from a local flea market, including the brass knuckles, on August 14 after being advised of his rights.

He was charged with possession of a weapon by a felon. Bond was set at $5,000 by Justice Court Judge Ray Hall. Prosecutors plan to present the case to the next Prentiss County grand jury. Investigators Aaron Stolz, Torie Jumper, and Kolby Knight assisted in the case.
