Mississippi governor says lawmakers will redraw district lines before 2027 elections
Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves announced Monday that he is canceling a scheduled special session after a federal appeals court vacated an order requiring the state to redraw its Supreme Court map.
Reeves, a Republican, clarified that he expects lawmakers to redraw congressional districts between now and the 2027 elections. He also anticipates changes to legislative and Supreme Court district lines in that timeframe.
The special session was set to begin next Wednesday but will no longer take place, Reeves said. The court’s decision to vacate the order has halted the immediate need for redistricting, but Reeves emphasized that redistricting efforts are still expected to occur before the next election cycle.
