Mississippi honors public safety heroes at annual summit

Mississippi officials honored public safety professionals at the state’s annual Public Safety Summit, with more than 900 attendees from across the state, according to organizers.

The event recognized several individuals for their service. Capt. William Kendrick of the Jackson Police Department received the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award. Officers Wyatt Webb and Brian Drieling of the Department of Marine Resources were named First Responders of the Year. Angel McIlrath of the 19th Circuit Court District was named Prosecutor of the Year, and Capt. John Clark of the Belzoni Fire Department was honored as Firefighter of the Year.

Organizers praised the dedication and sacrifice of these professionals, emphasizing their role in keeping communities safe. The summit was the largest to date, marking its fourth year of bringing public safety leaders together to learn, collaborate, and build partnerships.

The event’s success was attributed to the hard work of the organizer’s team and the Attorney General’s office, who worked behind the scenes. The summit’s growth reflects a shared commitment to strengthening public safety across Mississippi, organizers said.
