Booneville Deploys Axon Outpost ALPR Cameras to Enhance Public Safety
The city of Booneville and its police department will soon deploy the Axon Outpost automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) camera system at 35 locations throughout the city and parks. The fixed cameras automatically read license plates of passing vehicles and provide live streaming video, as well as vehicle attribute recognition such as make, model, and color.
The technology is intended to assist law enforcement in responding quickly to Amber Alerts, locating stolen vehicles, and identifying wanted suspects. According to the Booneville Police Department, the system offers real-time awareness at key locations, helping to close cases faster and reduce blind spots.
The department emphasized that the ALPR system is not used for issuing traffic citations. No traffic violations will be mailed or connected to the system. It is solely a monitoring tool that reads license plates and does not track individuals or store personal driving information beyond law enforcement needs. Data handling complies with department policies and privacy standards.
Booneville police already use Axon equipment, including Tasers, body cameras, and a fleet dashboard system. For questions about the ALPR program or data policies, residents are encouraged to contact the Booneville Police Department at 662-728-5611.
