Booneville Deploys Axon Outpost ALPR System to Enhance Public Safety

The city of Booneville and its police department announced plans to deploy the Axon Outpost automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) system in the coming months. The system will be installed at 35 locations throughout the city and parks.

According to authorities, the Axon Outpost consists of fixed cameras that automatically read license plates of passing vehicles. The cameras also provide live streaming video and recognize vehicle attributes such as make, model, and color.

The department said the technology will help law enforcement respond quickly to Amber Alerts, locate stolen vehicles, and identify wanted suspects. It is also intended to support investigations and improve overall situational awareness.

Officials emphasized that the system is not used for issuing traffic citations. No violations will be mailed to drivers based on the system’s data. The department also clarified that the system only reads license plates and does not track individuals or store personal driving information beyond law enforcement needs. Data handling adheres to departmental policies and privacy standards.

Booneville police already use Axon equipment such as Tasers, body cameras, and fleet dashboard systems. For questions about the new ALPR system or data policies, residents are encouraged to contact the Booneville Police Department at 662-728-5611.
