Mississippi Improves in National Health Rankings, Moving Up to 48th Place

Mississippi has moved up to 48th in the nation in health rankings, according to recent data. This marks a significant improvement after four decades of being in last place, and an increase of one spot in 2024, officials said.

State leaders attribute the progress to new strategies focused on job creation, better pay, higher educational attainment, and strategic investments. They also highlight efforts to improve residents’ health as key factors in the upward movement.

“You can’t move up until you are moving,” said a spokesperson, emphasizing that progress is ongoing. Officials expressed optimism about continued improvements over the next decade, comparing the current health gains to the educational advancements seen in recent years.

They credited conservative governance for the positive change, asserting that it has contributed to the state’s steady movement forward.
