Mississippi lawmaker responds to Supreme Court decision on mail-in ballots
A Mississippi legislator has issued a statement following the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on mail-in ballots. While expressing disagreement with the decision, the lawmaker emphasized respect for the court and its members.
In the statement, the legislator criticized the court for siding with liberal justices in a 5-4 decision but clarified that they do not support delegitimizing the court or harassing justices. Instead, the lawmaker said future actions will focus on legislative changes.
They called on the Mississippi Legislature to repeal a COVID-era law and require mail-in ballots to be received by 5 p.m. on Election Day to be counted. Despite their disagreement with the court’s ruling, the lawmaker reaffirmed respect for the judicial institution and its personnel.
