Mississippi opens six Disaster Recovery Centers for storm victims

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency will open six Disaster Service Centers on Monday to assist residents impacted by severe storms and tornadoes on May 6-7. The centers will provide in-person support to homeowners and renters seeking recovery aid, according to agency officials.

Federal funding is available for residents in Franklin, Lamar, Lawrence, Lincoln, and Wilkinson counties. Assistance includes grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-interest loans for uninsured property losses, and other recovery programs. The centers will operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

At the centers, federal, state, and local officials will assist disaster survivors. FEMA application specialists will answer questions about application status and help with new applications. Mississippi EMA representatives will address unmet needs and connect residents with local resources. U.S. Small Business Administration specialists will explain loan options to homeowners and businesses.

The centers are located at the Franklin County Courthouse in Meadville, the Lamar County Community Center in Purvis, the Lawrence County Emergency Operations Center in Monticello, the Bogue Chitto Fire Department and East Lincoln Fire Department in Brookhaven, and the Wilkinson County EMA Office in Woodville.
