Mississippi reports injuries and damage after overnight storm

Mississippi emergency officials provided an update Tuesday on the storm that struck the state last night. As of now, 17 injuries have been reported across affected areas.

Initial assessments indicate significant property damage. In Lamar County, 275 homes and 50 apartment units are damaged or inaccessible, and 30 roads are closed due to debris. The county has opened a shelter and safe room, with American Red Cross support available.

In Lincoln County, more than 200 homes sustained damage. The Cajun Navy is deploying a 50-person shelter pod, a 30-kilowatt generator, and 10 pallets of supplies to assist residents.

In Lawrence County, authorities report 12 homes damaged. Multiple roads are closed due to downed trees and power lines. These figures are preliminary and may change as damage assessments continue, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

State and local agencies are deploying road clearing teams and additional resources to support ongoing recovery efforts. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and respond to local needs.
