Mississippi Velvet Season Set for September 2026

Mississippi’s Velvet Season is scheduled for September 11-13, 2026. The archery-only season allows hunters to harvest one legal buck in velvet, which counts toward their annual antlered deer limit, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.

A Velvet Season Permit is required to participate. Residents can purchase the permit for $10, while non-residents have it included in their $100 deer permit. Permits are available wherever hunting or fishing licenses are sold.

Hunting is restricted to private lands and opted-in public lands. No Wildlife Management Areas or open public lands are participating in the 2026 Velvet Season, so hunters should verify land regulations before hunting.

Additional rules include reporting harvests by 10 p.m. on the day of the kill via the MDWFP HuntFish App or web portal. All harvested bucks must be submitted for chronic wasting disease testing within five days, either at an MDWFP CWD drop-off freezer or a participating taxidermist.
