Mississippians advised to stay alert as heavy rain forecasted
Mississippians should stay alert over the next few days as significant rainfall is forecasted in the state, according to local officials.
Estimates indicate South Mississippi could receive between 3 and 5 inches of rain, while Central Mississippi may see 4 to 7 inches. North Mississippi is expected to receive 1 to 3 inches.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has issued a warning, with Central and South Mississippi facing a moderate risk of flash flooding, and North Mississippi facing a slight risk. Authorities advise residents not to drive through flooded roadways.
EMA is deploying sandbags at the request of local emergency managers in counties including Harrison, Jackson, Lawrence, Pearl River, and Walthall. The agency said it will deploy additional resources as needed.
