The city of Booneville announced the launch of its first Mayor’s Youth Council, targeting high school students in grades 9 through 12. Applications will be accepted from September 1 to September 15, with no submissions after the deadline, according to city officials.
Selected students will be announced September 28, and the council’s first meeting is scheduled for October 6. Participants will have opportunities to lead community projects, volunteer, and share their voices on local issues, officials said.
A scholarship opportunity is available for graduating seniors who participate in the program and complete at least 150 hours of documented service. The scholarship will be awarded based on a review by an independent committee following established guidelines and a scoring system, according to city officials.
Community leaders are encouraged to get involved and support the initiative. The city described the program as a way to empower youth and incorporate their perspectives into local governance. “Our young people have ideas, energy, and a unique perspective that deserves a seat at the table,” said Booneville officials. “This is the beginning of something special for Booneville. We are excited about this opportunity.”
