The City of Booneville is establishing its first Mayor’s Youth Council for students in grades 9 through 12. The program aims to give young residents a platform to lead, serve, and share their perspectives through community projects and volunteer efforts, according to city officials.
Students who participate and complete at least 150 hours of documented service will be eligible for a $500 scholarship. An independent committee will review applications and determine awards based on established guidelines and a scoring system, officials said.
Mayor Lori Tucker encouraged community involvement, saying, “Our young people have ideas, energy, and a unique perspective that deserves a seat at the table. This is the beginning of something special for Booneville.”
Applications are available online at booneville-ms.gov and must be submitted in person at Booneville City Hall between September 1 and September 15. No applications will be accepted after 5 p.m. on September 15. Selected students will be announced September 28, with the first Youth Council meeting scheduled for October 6.
