Mississippi authorities investigate officer-involved shooting near Hermanville

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting near Hermanville involving the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred around midnight at Michael Dean’s Convenience Store, where deputies were attempting to disperse a crowd in the parking lot. During the encounter, gunfire was exchanged, authorities said.

A female bystander was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A deputy was also shot and later died at the hospital, according to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

The agency is actively gathering evidence and assessing the incident. Once the investigation is complete, findings will be shared with the local district attorney and the Mississippi attorney general’s office, officials said.

The FBI has offered up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
