The Mississippi Department of Public Safety officially opened its new Medical Examiner’s Office in Oxford on Tuesday, marking a significant milestone for North Mississippi and the state’s criminal justice system.
The office is expected to become fully operational later this year. Its opening follows years of planning, leadership, and collaboration, according to MDPS officials.
The current Medical Examiner’s Office in Pearl has provided essential services to the region for years. Officials expressed gratitude for its dedication and the support it has offered to families and communities in North Mississippi.
The new facility brings medical examiner services closer to the communities it serves, which officials say will benefit victims’ families, law enforcement, coroners, prosecutors, and the justice system overall. The goal is to deliver answers more quickly and streamline investigations, improving the timely administration of justice.
MDPS Commissioner Sean Tindell was thanked for his leadership in making the project a reality. Officials also recognized the efforts of numerous agencies and partners involved in the development of the office.
